Happy One Year!
One year ago yesterday, I married my best friend. To celebrate, we threw on some fancy duds and biked to our date night. We returned to the restaurant where we had our wedding reception a year ago and sat on their patio, enjoying a delicious dinner and even more delicious mojitos. A year ago, when we got married, we drove to our ceremony site in T’s little vintage MG, which then took us to dinner and finally home. I loved making a ‘Just Married’ sign for it and was thrilled and surprised to find a bundle of cans strung together and attached to the car by our families. We laughed as we drove to the restaurant, making a huge racket and catching everyone’s eye who heard us coming before they could even spot the little car.
This time, we made a much quieter (though no less stylish) entrance as we rode our bikes through campus and into downtown. Since starting to bike for transportation, we’ve increasingly opted for bikes over our car even when the event in question requires dressing up or the heat index tops the 90s. Even if I may get sweaty and my hair might get tousled on the way there, I still have so much more fun biking next to T. and enjoying the sights and sounds of the neighborhood as we ride through it side by side.
We made a quick stop at our ceremony site and parked the bikes to take some pictures and enjoy a bout of nostalgia. And then we peddled on, since dinner and mojitos were calling our names. Happy One Year, T!
