goodbye summer, goodbye cruiser
I’m officially saying goodbye to my outdoor office as a new academic year begins. And, unexpectedly, I am also taking leave from my Electra cruiser named Mojito. Our time together was brief but beautiful. We shared many a picnics and reading sessions under a tree. We rode to the lake; we rode to special events; we simply enjoyed riding.
I had wanted an upright comfortable bike and so my husband found me this wonderful cruiser with which to kickstart my daily bike commutes. Although it wasn’t my dream bike, it was a bike that met many of my criteria for commuting and I quickly became fond of Mojito. Then we came across a pair of 1960s Raleigh Roadsters and I saw pictures of the vintage bike of my dreams flash before my eyes. (Literally; I was glued to the Craigslist ad with the bike pictures from the first glance to the moment we brought them home).
My intention is to make the Raleigh Ladies Sports bike my daily commuter bike so Mojito had to find a new home. In Velouria’s words, I was swift and didn’t dwell on the decision; I put my cruiser up for sale and am happy to say that Mojito has found a wonderful new owner already. I hope she enjoys him as much as I did.
So goodbye Mojito and goodbye summer. As the new academic year begins and I trade in my outdoor office for one with actual walls and ceiling, I look forward to new adventures on my bike as I ride to work. And to a new (old) bike to share them with me.
