foto friday: cycling at 33 weeks pregnant
This week was less eventful on the cycling front, mostly because temperatures rose into the high 90s and I thought better of going on long rides in that kind of heat and sun. I didn’t mind it at all last summer when I wasn’t pregnant (in fact, I just wore a lot of pattern to mask the sweat stains as per Velouria’s advice), but with baby in tow I’m being a lot more careful. Overheating and dehydration can cause premature labor, so my bike rides this week remained short and rare, mostly going to the grocery store and back.
I did, however, make up for less riding by attending my usual prenatal yoga class and by adding two prenatal water aerobics classes into the mix as well. The water aerobics classes are awesome, it felt so great to be in a pool, and it’s also probably one of the few times in my life I’ll be rocking the huge belly spilling over my bathing suit bottom without a care in the world. I’m also enjoying the added benefits of mixing up my ‘workout routine’ with swimming, yoga, and cycling. I was never this diligent about cross-training when I should have been, back in my running days. This is one lesson I need to take away from being pregnant; mix it up and try new things. There is no need to be devoted to only one mode of excercise, or transportation, for that matter.
You can take the limitations imposed on you and bemoan the fact that you’re unable to stick to your regular routine and way of doing things or you can see it as an opportunity to explore what else is out there. I’m glad I decided to go exploring because I’ve discovered some awesome classes in my community and some really wonderful people along the way.
Hope you’re off to a great weekend, maybe some explorations of your own, and definitely some time outdoors! ~ S.
